You probably noticed that when you graded the quiz ( the quiz is in the smart but scattered book starting on pages 34-37 only choose one grade level for the quiz so either the preschool/kindergarten or first-third grade version) you took, each set of questions was focused on a different executive skill. Choose a specific child in your school setting who can be described using this test. What are his/ her executive skills areas of strength and weakness? (Please do not list his standard strengths and weaknesses…make sure they are in the list of executive function skills. and based on the quiz you took.) Let’s practice creating strategies to help this child succeed in your classroom. Please use the template provided to write your responses. It is attached 1. Start by describing a classroom you work in, and explain how the child you took the quiz for functions within the classroom. Highlight the areas of difficulty, and how his executive function issues work against him in this setting. List the weaknesses you identified in your quiz, and come up with recommendations for how to help him within the classroom. Use the chapters in the SMART BUT SCATTERED book which deal with those specific weaknesses as a resource, and tailor it to fit your classroom needs and this child’s personality type, likes, and dislikes. As a second resource, please use the webinar I posted, which gives many strategies that work to teach executive skills within the classroom. This will provide you with concrete tools for how to manage students’ behavior and learning. You do not need to watch the entire webinar, rather use it for suggestions. ( the webinar is attached as well its a video) I would like you to create a plan which provides at least two strategies to target each of the child’s three weakest areas (for a total of 6 strategies.) Please provide at least two strategies from the book (smart but Scattered), and two strategies from the Webinar. Remember to cite the source for each strategy you present. (APA formatting not required. ) 2. Give at least one suggestion for how you can physically structure your classroom (or your student’s seat) to promote focused attention and good behavior. 3. Are there any skills you would build using a visual chart? How would that prove helpful to this particular student? 4. A few interesting ideas on getting students to initiate a task were presented.
